businesses: roots of appalachia growers association (RAGA)

RAGA is a non-profit organization that encourages, educates, and supports growers of medicinal herbs. Established in 2000 with the help of Rural Action, RAGA is based in the foothills of Southeastern Ohio with a membership of over 50 individuals, businesses, and organizations in Ohio and out of state. RAGA is a support network for growers, providing a wealth of information about how to grow, market, and prevent poaching of ginseng and other woodland medicinal herbs. We also educate the public about the value of growing and protecting these threatened herbs. Due to the huge demand for many of Appalachia’s woodland herbs, overharvesting has threatened the survival of most wild populations of economically important woodland herbs. Rather than losing these herbs and the vital role they play in our ecosystem, we are reversing the trend through development of organic woodland cultivation practices. We also serve our members by fostering and encouraging entrepreneurial undertakings in the herbal marketplace.
