Ohio Pro-Beef Alliance The Ohio Pro-Beef Alliance was started as a cooperative in 2000 by a group of beef producers with the assistance of OSU Extension and Rural Coop Development. These producers were trying to position themselves in the marketplace by providing a product, feeder cattle, that would be recognized as high quality, healthy and consumer oriented. It is a farm supply and marketing cooperative that provide the group purchase of inputs, marketing of feeder calves and breeding stock, and educational programming. There are 26 members of the cooperative with no employees. The membership consists of commercial cow/ calf, purebred and feed lot enterprises. Most of the members are part time farmers with a few being full time farmers. Herd size ranges from 20 to 200 cows. Customers are seeking a source of verified, healthy cattle to avoid feedlot illness and in some cases the cattle are marketed to niche markets. The Alliance serves South Central Ohio with the calves being marketed in Ohio and surrounding states. Ohio Pro Beef is currently recruiting new members to increase the number of cows and subsequent calves for larger more uniform lots. Demand for our calves is currently exceeding our supply. Educational programs are offered to improve production practices, improve the quality of the product and participate in the Five State Beef Initiative. Company
