The following is a list of previous funded projects through the OCDC seed money program. Each group has identified the stated objectives that they will achieve by expending the money allocated from OCDC. These are provided as a summary of some of the various activities that can be funded through the OCDC grant program. Contact us to explore your plans for a cooperative and how they might fit with our seed grant program.

MOON Food Cooperative (2005)

  • Prepare articles of incorporation and draft bylaws- attorney services used
  • Develop a book record keeping system- CPA services used
  • Begin an aggressive equity drive- fundraising dinners
  • Designed newsletters and brochures and purchased software to be used by the co-op

Heritage Farm Meats LLC (2005)

  • Create a business plan and perform a feasibility study for a meat business
  • Meet with loan securing organizations and federal regulators
  • Brochure, business cards and letterhead printing

Special Touch Home Care LLC (2005)

  • Hire legal and accounting services
  • Design and print flyers and advertising materials
  • Identify potential customers

Farm Fresh Growers Marketing Association (2004 & 2005)

  • purchase of branded packaging materials
  • development of promotional materials and logo for FFG

American Berry Coop (2004)

  • To produce berry snack packs for trial marketing
  • Conduct test panels
  • Determine the feasibility of the 3 chosen berry products for the institutional markets
  • Supplies for the snack packs ie. the berries, cups and sealer etc.

Bexley Food Market (2004)

  • Website design, hosting and domain name

Chesterhill Produce Auction (2004)

  • To explore other auctions already established in Ohio
  • Develop marketing and promotional materials for the auction
  • Attend workshops and training opportunities
  • Honoria for speakers and presenters at workshops and field days

North Church Construction Coop (2004)

  • Incorporate and develop bylaws
  • Establish an accounting system
  • Perform a small market study and business plan
  • Develop marketing materials
  • Training to learn how to bid better for jobs

Buckeye Meat Goat Association (2004)

  • Developed brochures and promotional materials for increasing membership
  • To work towards becoming a co-op for expanded economic and marketing power

Majestic Galleries (2004)

  • Install track lighting in our showroom
  • Design marketing brochures and promotional postcards for increasing membership

Northeast Ohio Foodshed Network (2004)

  • Form a buyer network and determine total food demand
  • Form a farmer network and determine supply
  • Explore models of cooperative purchasing
  • Compile detailed inventory of foods ripe for local purchasing

Starbrick Clay Fine Art Ceramic Gallery (2004)

  • Develop brochures, web site and marketing materials for Starbrick and the National Show
  • Lighting installation in the Gallery
  • Bags that identify Starbrick Clay

Organic Grain Alliance (2003)

  • travel to visit other organic cooperatives in the US
  • exploration of a cooperative model
  • development and mailing of a survey to potential producers to determine interest
  • pre-feasibility study of developing an organic grain cooperative
  • develop a fact sheet on organic grain production and marketing

Madison County Growers Association (2003)

  • start and maintain a Farmers’ Market in London
  • start a countywide marketing strategy that includes signs and
  • brochures for Madison County products
  • explore potential of a marketing cooperative

Ohio Premium Pine Cooperative (2003)

  • developing a logo for OPPC
  • printing letterhead and brochures
  • lawyer fees for incorporation documents
  • development of a display board
  • food and travel money for membership meetings

Marietta Kitchen Creations (2003)

  • gather information about 501C3 incorporation
  • application fees for incorporation
  • travel for speakers and resource personnel

Roots of Appalachia Growers Association (2002)

  • locating practitioners throughout Ohio that use medicinal herbs
  • developing and mailing of a questionnaire
  • making personal contacts with the interested practitioners and distributing sample packets of herbs to them
  • logo development and letterhead printing
  • exploring a cooperative business structure for the marketing aspect of RAGA

Southern Ohio Meat Goat Task Force (2002)

  • travel expense for a trip to New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania to explore the potential markets for Ohio producers
  • gain a better understanding of the markets within the goat meat industry
  • development of the Buckeye Meat Goat Association

Ohio Pro Beef Alliance (2002)

  • develop promotional materials including a display board and brochures adopt OPBA identification materials for pool marketing of calves

  • development of an Administrative Summary and Business Plan
  • lawyer fees for developing a marketing agreement
  • travel for speakers and educational trips for producers

Good Food Direct (2002)

  • Develop scenarios for structure of cooperative marketing
  • Surveys- Consumer opinion of various ordering methods (ordering via web)
